Boro Sashiko Short Jacket

A cropped jacket built entirely from cloth cut up and pieced back together, then held down with dense hand stitching. Lined with a vintage tweed blanket.

Base
Boro patchwork, assembled from cut fabric
Fabric
Tartan and textured cloth from Edinburgh charity shops and flea markets
Lining
Vintage tweed blanket
Technique
Boro patchwork, Sashiko
Made
February to May 2026
Time
3 months
Label
HOIM, hand made in Edinburgh

The cloth

Every panel is second-hand. Tartan, check and plain scraps are laid edge to edge so the colour changes across the body.

The stitching

Dense rows of hand stitching pin the patchwork down and turn the surface into a single woven-looking fabric.

The lining

A vintage tweed blanket lines the inside, so the jacket is as warm as it looks.
